Meet the Member Services team - Colin and Kirstie

Meet the Team: Get to Know Our Member Services Team

2nd August 2022

When you call or email us, you’ll be speaking to our friendly Member Services team. This team is dedicated to supporting our members by talking about the features of our products, helping them manage or apply for plan and answering any questions they may have.

Each person on the team receives in-depth service and product training, so that they can offer the very best experience to all of our members, every time they contact us.

It’s always nice to put a face to a name, so we thought we’d create a series of articles, introducing you to some members of the team. First, we met Val Brookes, who has been working for Shepherds Friendly for over 30 years – now that’s commitment to our members!

In case you missed it, you can find our mini- interview with Val here.

Say hello to Colin and Kirstie

Over the past few years, our Member Services team has grown, so that we can keep providing our members with the highest possible levels of service. We sat down with some of the newer faces on the team, who are at different stages of their Shepherds Friendly journey, to find out a little more about them. So, without further ado, meet Colin and Kirstie:

Hi, Colin! How long have you been working at Shepherds Friendly?

Eight months.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

Identifying avenues to continually drive improvement in service and process, to ensure we constantly strive to deliver a world class service, as our members deserve. I am also passionate about developing my team, as a whole and as individuals, and supporting them in ways that help them achieve their professional objectives. Plus, the people and relationships I have built and continue to build.

If you had to sum Shepherds Friendly up in three words, what would you say?

Unlike anywhere else.

What are your hobbies or interests outside of work?

I love film, music and literature. With my favourite films being Magnolia, Once Upon a Time in America and Groundhog Day. My favourite band is The National and favourite album is Yankee Hotel Foxtrot by Wilco. In terms of books, I really like A Confederacy of Dunces and The Corrections.

I also have an unhealthy interest in jackets, trainers and Manchester United.

What are you most proud of?

I don’t really think like that, and find this question quite difficult to answer but, if pressed, I think I’d say being a better and happier person than I was 10 years ago. But it’s still a work in progress.

Do you have any pets?

Yes, I have a dog called Eric and he is the finest creature in all the land.

Coffee or tea?

Coffee, but I’m drinking more tea by the day!

What three items would you take with you to a desert island?

My wife, my dog and the telly (including the myriad of Apps built into it).

Tell us a fascinating fact about you

I am close to 50 and still like wrestling.

And, finally, just for fun… Do you think pineapple belongs on pizza?

No! It’s an atrocity.

Hello, Kirstie! How long have you been working at Shepherds Friendly?

I started on the 23rd of May 2022.

What are you enjoying most about your role so far?

The team is great. Everyone’s so helpful when I have a question. They’re also really supportive as I’m still learning so much every day.

If you had to sum Shepherds Friendly up in three words, what would you say?

Lovely working environment.

What are your hobbies or interests outside of work?

I have a modern classic sports car that I love dearly. I am a member of two car clubs, so try to attend as many events that I can. I also try to spend time with my family that are dotted around the country, so I regularly visit Yorkshire and Bedfordshire.

What are you most proud of?

My car. I always wanted one from a young age and some people said it would never happen, but they were wrong. Life’s too short, so I treated myself as a late 30th birthday present. Now, I’m super proud if I can afford the petrol!

Do you have any pets?

Yes. I have a rabbit called Domino and a fish called Gordon. I adore them both.

What three items would you take with you to a desert island?

A fully kitted out boat so I could leave to get supplies and cruise around. My husband so I had someone to talk to and a friendly dog to walk and swim with.

Tell us a fascinating fact about you

I trained as a beauty therapist for four years.

Coffee or tea?

No thanks, just water will do.

And, finally … Do you think pineapple belongs on pizza?

Sometimes. I have to be in the mood. I like a Hawaiian but it’s not my favourite.
